Opening of the Presents

Seems to remain the same year after year. When we gather with family on Christmas eve, the presents must be opened after dinner presents are passed out and everyone can open their gifts right away. On Christmas day we also open them after dinner but we pass out all the presents and sit in a circle. We all take turns opening one present at a time, so everyone can see what you have riceived. Then the next person gets to open one so on and so forth until it is your turn again. Lot's of pictures are taken and it is a fun way to enjoy all the thoughtful gifts everyone has received.

Oh Christmas Tree

How bright your twinkling lights glow. Thursday was spent in Seattle shopping with Jerilyn. We saw all kinds of Christmas trees all lit up and very festive, it was a wonderful day. This is a tree in West lake Mall area, which is where we spent most of the day. In Pacific Place ( a mall a block away) It Snows inside the mall! It is really fun and amazing it feels like snow, but it is warm inside the building. We have been talking about seeing it for years, so this was our year to enjoy it.

Christmas Music

...is so happy and fun! I find my self singing along to the Christmas music at work and notice alot of customers doing the same. I like the tradition of the songs and just the happiness they bring. I saw mommy kissing Santa Clause, Hark the Herald Angels sing, Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow, O'Christmas Tree, Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer, Silver Bells, Santa Clause is coming to town, to name just a few good ones. What a great way to spend a day decorating the house for Christmas and listening/singing to the holiday music. Of course mom will be listening to her favorite... Elvis singing his Christmas songs just to her!

Christmas Morphing...

Christmas in our family has changed and seems to morph a little each year. When Grandma Engstrom was alive the entire family would go to her house for Christmas Eve. Once she passed, all the Aunt & Uncles would take turns having Christmas Eve at their houses. Now it is either at Aunty Rains, Marilyn's, or Todd and Crissy's. This year Christmas Eve is at Marilyn's and Christmas day is at Cory & Brandon's. Change is good, we spend the holidays with the ones we love the most.

Wrappings

Wrapping of gifts (that I still need to buy) is always fun. Until you get to mom's wrapping at the last minute, stressed out, but not this year I have from the 22nd to the 25th off so presents will get wrapped, put under the tree with time to spare. Yeah for being able to change my work schedule around and get Christmas eve off. I love the bows and have made all the Christmas tags with Katie's help so Bring non the wrapping.

Traditions

One of my favorite traditions is Baking with the family. Today at Todd & Crissy's we gathered to start the Christmas baking. Mom and Dad, Tye, Katie, and Me were all there to eat and bake and eat some more. We are going back next Saturday to finish the baking and this time Jerilyn is going to join the festivities. We have so much fun baking together, lots of flour and powder suger flying in the air. Lot's of tasting of the good Scandinavian baked goodies. We bake Spritz, Lefsa, no bake cookies, home made crackers, rosettes, Krumkaka, fattigman, and snickerdoodles. Yummy

To be jolly fa la la la la... with Holiday lights and Christmas decor all though the neighborhoods That I love to explore. As for our house the mantel and living room are all festive with lights and holiday decor. Now on to the tree that will go up this week when we find it. I love to decorate the tree, yes I like putting on the lights and tinsel and the ornaments. It just makes it feel like Christmas even if we get no snow.

Yep its that time of year again when lists are being prepared and lost and then re-done, at least that's how I work. So far this year there has been no list for me I think it is still tooo early. OK only 13 days until Christmas Eve and yet there is no written list, maybe by the end of the week I will write one. I am not inspired to this year, I know what I am giving almost everyone I think. My goal is to get my Christmas cards out first and then lists will follow. Maybe.. : )

As I was making my Calender this year I came upon a picture I had forgotten all about, It made my eyes a little misty. It was of my Grandma Engstrom sitting on a couch napping with a big smile on her face. It was at a family gathering most likely Christmas or Thanksgiving at my Aunty Rain and Uncle Wilmer's house in Lynwood. She looked so peaceful and happy, I think we had finished eating and were just relaxing. I miss the holidays with her, she was a wonderful woman and great cook. (If you know me you know my best memories come from food.) I am glad I found the picture of a Christmas almost forgotten.

The Countdown Begins

The Christmas season is once again here. Work is crazy with shoppers bustling with their bags of presents and little patients. Christmas is a time of giving and kindness, unless you are working in retail. Early mornings and late nights, frenzy shoppers looking for just that perfect gift, that will no doubt be brought back to the store in January by the receiver of the "I can't believe they thought I would like that" gift and the poor sales associate who has to tell them no cash back, so sorry. The moral of this story PLEASE be kind to your sales associates most of them are only holiday help with little knowledge of what you are going to be needing. Smile and say Hi back, it won't kill ya. lol

So.. the count down to crazyness begins, be patient not much longer!

little falling wet drips at a fairly fast pace, off and on all day. While the mountains are gaining fresh powdery soft white goodness. The weather forecast for the next few days are sunny with possibility of rain! haha I live in Washington state that is always a possibility. So today I am off to creative land and wrapping the gifts I already have and maybe a walk with my dogs.

My Journaling Journey begins

Good Afternoon,

Wow can you believe only 24 more days until Christmas. So this is how my December begins with 3 days off of work to get the house all decorated, journaling all done and taking mom Christmas shopping so she can finish it all up.

I absolutely LOVE this time of year, I know I say that every year but it is so true. I love the bustle of the shoppers, building snowmen, eggnog, all the decorating and everything to do with family. I am also going to make some Christmas cards and send them out!

JYC 7 Making lists getting Organized

Making lists and getting organized is not how I work. I make lists, and loose them right away. SO mental check lists are always good. here is the start of my Christmas lists. When I get the item I will fill it in. I am a procrastinator so the shopping will be done usually the day before Christmas Eve. As well as the wrapping
1. Mom - Nook bought ( yes, she had it already so I will buy her more books from me and Santa!)
2. Dad- Cologne ( yes he has it already, so will get him something else from me and Santa)
3. Todd- wii game and shirt
4. Tye- wii game and shirt
5. Crissy - Sweeter and Starbucks GC, coat
6 Cory- Sweeter and Starbucks GC, coat
7. Octavia - Sweeter and Bath & Bodyworks GC, pajamas
8. Nathan- Wii game
9. Isaac- Wii game most likely a combined game for the boys.
10. Mutt-
11. Jenner- Season 6 of House, and season 4 of Dexter
12. Cody- Shirts and a GC for applebees
13. Aunty Rain- Karen scott sweeter

Lets not forget I am making Christmas cards to send out as well, I am shooting for 30 hand made cards this year. I also have one more SU order I would like to put in before the new year!

JYC - 6 Tales of 2 Christmas

This is one of my favorite prompts! Tales of Christmas past and Christmas present.
Christmas Past: The Christmas tradition I miss the most is going to Grandma Engstom's house for Christmas Eve. All of moms brothers ( Laverne and Clarence) and sisters (Delores, Lorraine, Myrna) would gather with there family's ( about 23-30 of us)to celebrate Christmas Eve. Grandma would make the most Delicious sour cream cookies and the dinner was always tons of great food! Yumm! The house was not to big, 2 bedrooms, a living room, bathroom, and kitchen. A covered mud room with a drinking fountain ( we used to drink from the fountain all the time.) So we all crammed into the living room to eat dinner and open presents. Uncle Clarence would have all the kids pick a number and they got to pick the present that matched their number, the presents were always great and then the adults would draw numbers and pick out there presents. Then we would open the presents from everyone else. It was always happy boisterous and fun!
Christmas Present: Our Christmas's now are much more quieter only mom and her sister Lorraine share The holidays with their families ( around 13-18 of us). We go to Marilyn's house which is plenty big for all of us. The food is still amazing! We get more quality time with the people we love. It is more about family and not so much about the gifts. Yes we still exchange gifts with everyone. So lots of pictures are taken by me to keep the memories alive for everyone. Both Christmases are wonderful in there own way.

Today's prompt is all about Christmas dreams! My Christmas Dream is simple: To have lots of snow, yes I want a white Christmas just like the ones we used to have when I was a growing up. I also want my Christmas cards sent out timely, my shopping to be done and prettily wrapped under the tree, the real tree to be up and decorated as well as the house decorated, the cats to not sleep in the tree just because they can, and everyone to enjoy this holiday season because it is my FAVORITE time of year! I love all the hustle and bustle, the decorating, baking, the smells, the carolers and of course building the best snowman and angels in the snow.

My reality is Our family gets together at Christmas and we all really enjoy each others company the food is always way to much and totally amazing, my Christmas cards will be sent out a couple days before or after Christmas possibly, the tree might not get put up, the house will get decorated soon?, the cats will sleep in the decorations since they do not have a tree to sleep in, the presents will get wrapped nicely the day before Christmas eve because that's when most of the shopping will be done, and we may or may not get snow. I love my Christmas reality and my dreams could come magically true!

Today day 3 of December ( actually writing this on the 4th. oops) The prompt is all about cards! Ahh Christmas card.... I used to have them out timely and send lots of them as the years go bye less and less cards get sent. This year I my goal is to send out 30 hand made Christmas cards. I will start making them on monday the 6th of December, all I need is to design them, sign them, write an message in them and put the address on the envelops put stamps on them, and mail them off by Christmas! Isn't it sad we do not have even One Christmas card yet! Well we have the ones from last year out. I will have to admit I love getting cards in the mail any type! So let the card creativeness begin!

JYC 2 - The weather

Prompt for day 2 - We discuss the weather on the 2nd of December. Well today is not a normal December 2nd. It is cold about 45 degrees out and we have sun and no wind. We have been having high winds lately. Our first snow came on Monday November 22nd and lasted about 3 days. The freeway (I5) was shut down because of all the snow and ice. Even though the road was sanded and salted the snow froze over it and was one big skating rink. On a normal day Dad can get home in little over an hour on this day it took little over 7 1/2 hours. I am hopeful that we will get more snow and I want it for a snowy Christmas.

I get prompts/suggestions about what to write about each day, my goal is to write something on my blog everyday. So the prompt for day 1 is all about making a Christmas manifesto - making a promise to yourself to enjoy this project and relish the holiday season.

This is a 3pc outfit. The jacket is from the dollar store the jeans are from a thrift store and the onsies are from a chain store. I tie died the onsie with re inkers, and ironed on the big shot flowers border to the onsie, jacket, and jeans. It was really easy and I think it turned out really cute! To tie die the onsie all you do is put water and drops of re-inkers into a shallow baking dish. (I used rubberbands to make my circles) Put onsie in until you get the color you want. I then rung it out and put it in the dryer, once dried I undid the rubberbands and voila, finished. To set the die put 1 cup vinegar in the wash with your onsie after it is the color you want it.

This is the Dog Collar and Leash I sent in to the contest I used 5/8" rose red and old olive grosgrain ribbon and some flowers and stems from the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt! (The collar is adujustable!) It was really easy to make and I will show you in the next couple of weeks the collars my dogs are wearing!

Hi, It has been forever since I posted last, but I am back and my first post is to announce I am taking a class called "Journal Your Christmas" by Shimelle over at 2peas and I am to journal my Christmas season. We get prompts every day of what we can journal about or we can do our own thing. I am going to stick to the prompts.

This is for the Stampin' UP convention. I have signed up for swaps and this is for a 3D one. I used the Home Decore Popcorn Rub-on and also added a Rub-on flower. I used some of the new IN colors for the wraping on the popcorn bag and some rafia to put in the bowl for decoreation then put it in a bag added ribbon and what a great gift it makes! I am really happy with how it turned out!

Yes I am a swap aholic and procrastinator to boot. I am just starting my swaps and I leave for Utah on the 1st of August. I have 50 card fronts, 6 Domino frames, 22 punch art card fronts , 11 big shot card fronts, 16 3x3 full cards, 11 card candy bundles with 6 pieces of card candy per package. Plus at least 100 card fronts for general swapping! Oh and there are also 3 roommates I have to make goodies for! So stay tuned for all the goodies will be revealed here first!

Here is my layout for the Scrapoff challenge over at the Scrapbook Nook. The challenge was to use the same photo at least 2x. I absolutely love this picture of Jerilyn, Roy, (holding Bailee) and Katie. I wanted to get a picture of bailee in the Tulip fields but he was scared of them! He is 1 or 2 in the picture. Katie is wearing my pullover hoodie it just makes teh pic. I cut Katie out and poped her off the page.

My subject is adorable so I am ok with it. The digi kit I used was from the Spring Sampler by Sharon Carol. It is a great digi kit. This is a fun project I did at SU regionals and have made some with my club as well. It is pretty easy to do. The vanilla paper is cut 9 3/4" x 6". length wise score at 4 3/4" and then again at 5". rotate 90 degrees and score at 2 1/2". This will make the pocket for the gift cards to fit into. Card size is 4" x2 3/4.

Let me start my story by saying that I work at a daycare. I took one of the boys (2yrs old) to the bathroom and went to catch the phone. ( he was supposed to take off his pants and pullup) I grabbed the phone and as I was answering it was on my way back to the bathroom...well of course the call was a hangup so I look in the bathroom and the little boy had the small toilet seat that the girls use on his head pointing to it saying "Queen" with the biggest smile on his face. Q qwa Queen is one of the phonics flash cards that we do every day. He was so proud of himself for knowing Q is Queen. If I was not grossed out about the toilet seat on his head I would have snapped a picture. It was soooo hard not to roflmbo. I did reassure him that Q is Queen but we do not put toilet seats on our head. Kids are to funny!

This is my first attempt at Digital Scrapbooking and I am quite happy with it. The picture was taken last summer of Crissy (my sister in-law/friend) was just hanging out in the backyard, my Dad handed her the rose and I got this picture. The digi kit that I used was free from ShabbyPricess.com it is called the Promise. I love the kit is is really girly cute!

This is a card I made because I love the new scallop punch by SU! the stems are from the birds feet in stamp set Good Friends. the new eyelet border is my new favorite punch! I love the scalloped look so add eyelets and you got me hooked! Ok anything glittery is great too.

This was for a swap my mom was in it was a Chocolate Swap. We had to swap milk chocolate so this is the bag we load the yummy chocolate in. I made 4 of these for my mom. We put a hershey's chocolate bar and a sack of kisses and chocolate covered pretzels in each bag. I love this Valentines stamp set by SU.

Here is a clear album for my cousin to put her dog pics in! The clear acrylic came in a 12x12 sheet so I cut it into 4 6x6 pieces ( one slide on the cutting blade and bend it it pulls apaprt really easy) added some paper and stickers. It is bound togeather by 2 rings that I am going to put doggie ribbons on. On the first page is hagning a couple Chipboard pieces one says puppy love and one is blank and I am going to put my cousins dog's name on it. YOu gotta love bling! This was the first one I did, I have done one more dog album for my mom, and 2 cat ones for friends and family. I need more acrylic 12x12 so I can make 2 more cat ones for christmas!

This is my 25 days till Christmas countdown calender. The paper, ribbon and rub ons are stampin' up, the pointsettas and stars are from my Secret Sis on scs! I am in a 24 days of Christmas swap, where you spend $30 on one person and get them 24 presents for them to open! It is alot of fun!

I think this class was by Ck and this was my 3rd class. It was a great class the only thing I have a problem with is the kits are only for one side of the lo. I need 2 matching sides to my spreads, I am really really serious about that. I have tried to just let it go but can't! So now to figure out how to work the other sides. hmmm

WOW, what a fun class this was my 2nd class at CK Convention, I was not to excited to take this class, but it turned out sooo cute that I love it. It is also a Quick Quotes class. Their classes are so organized and they give everyone a prize! If you wear one of their shirts you get another prize. Yeah Quick Quotes! All i need to do is fill it with pictures and I am done.

This was a class by Quick Quotes that I took at the Creeting Keepsakes Convention in early November. I have decided how to put them togeather I am going to attatch hinges to them and make them a tri-fold table decoration. I need to scan in some of my dad and mom vintage pics of relatives to add to all the tags, to make it more interesting, but that wont be done until christmas break! I have always wanted to work with scrapbooking and canvas so this was alot of fun.

Black Friday sales!

Wow did we shop til we droped. The morning started at 4am with standing out in the cold at Old Navy (for the free MP3 player that they load with their music). They only give out so many wristbands and we missed it by at least 12 crazier people than us, but we shopped anyway. Then off to the mall to Jc Pennys, Macys, Nordstrom, and every other store with the word SALE! The rule for the day was only sale items could be bought, I am quite proud to say that was all we purchesd. By Noon we were starving and went for a great lunch at Penara Bread, Yummy. Then moe shopping.......Target....Kohls......Fred Meyer.... Than at around 6pm it was time for the discount mall that we skipped ( we decided to sleep instead of going there first) so after going through all the stores there it was 11:30pm. Yep I agree that is way out of control. Next year we are going to start at the outlet mall, in there contract they have to have an early special of 30% off of everything. So the stores that had 40% already had to have an additional 30% on top of that so wow what a great savings...... Can't wait for next year!

In total I think we hit over 100 stores in 1 day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I am going to my cousins house to celebrate the holiday with family.
Then my mom, cousin and I are starting Black Friday (Friday after thanksgiving is called "Black Friday" by retailers because of the masses of people) at midnight! YES we are totally nuts. (OK, I will admit I absolutely love the hussel and bussel of holiday shopping!) Our outlet mall opens at midnight with wonderful discounts then its off for a 2 or 3 hour nap, next we hit the mall at 4am (after getting a 24oz white chocolate and peppermint mocha) then by 8am we will have breakfast at Penera Bread Yummy, shopping will continue until the stores close. Yep I love the day after thanksgiving sales!

Cracked Glass

Yeah! I am glad I finally tried this technique, it was alot easier than I ahd thought.

Directions:
Stamp your image
Next versamark the area you want cracked
Then sprinkle clear embossing powder(or use glassy glaze for deeper cracks) over versamarked area and use your heat tool on it.
Do this step (versamark/ embossing powder/ heat tool) 3-4 times
Last put in Freezer for 5-10 minutes.
It really is as easy as that.

I really like the cutting boards that I have seen so I re-created one for a christmas gift. Behind the coarkboard is a hole where you can hang it from. I was too lazy to cut the hole out so I just covered it up.
